Wizengamot
Location
The Wizengamot is located on Level 10 of the Ministry of Magic.
The Wizengamot and their Mandate
The Wizengamot is the high court of wizarding law in Britain. The head of the Wizengamot is called the Chief Warlock. Those who preside over a hearing or a trial are called the Interrogators. A Court Scribe takes notes of the proceedings.
Dress Code
Wizengamot members wear plum-colored robes with an elaborate silver "W" on the left side.
Courtroom One
Bail/Show Cause courtroom for crimes falling under the Hit Wizards jurisdiction. When an accused is arrested for criminal charges, and are not released directly from the Hit Wizard Headquarters, they are brought to Courtroom One for a Bail Hearing, also known as a Show Cause (either the Prosecutor tries to show cause as to why the accused should be in jail, or the accused has to show cause why they should be released.
Courtroom Two
General remand court and adjournments. Also known as Set Date court, for accused persons to set dates for their trial.
Courtroom Three
Bail/Show Cause courtroom for Dark Wizards or Dark Arts/Dark Magic falling under the Aurors jurisdiction. When an accused is arrested for criminal charges, and are not released directly from the Auror Headquarters, they are brought to Courtroom Three for a Bail Hearing, also known as a Show Cause (either the Prosecutor tries to show cause as to why the accused should be in jail, or the accused has to show cause why they should be released.
Courtroom Four
Plea court for crimes falling under the Hit Wizards jurisdiction. This is for accused persons who wish to plead guilty, without the benefit of a trial.
Courtroom Five
Plea court for Dark Wizards or Dark Arts/Dark Magic falling under the Aurors jurisdiction. This is for accused persons who wish to plead guilty, without the benefit of a trial.
Courtrooms Six to Nine
Smaller trials or hearing rooms. Same set up as Courtroom Ten, but with a smaller Judge's balcony, for one to nine Interrogators (Judges).
Courtroom Ten
The biggest courtroom, reserved for the more significant offences. The walls of Courtroom Ten are dark stone, dimly lit by torches. In the center of the room is a chair with magical chains on it where the accused sits. The court members, of which there are about fifty, sit above overlooking the chair in the judge's balcony.
Wizengamot Charter of Rights
According to the Wizengamot Charter of Rights, the accused is allowed to call witnesses in his or her defense and to be represented by another person.
